Making a friendship band is a fun and meaningful craft you can do this Friendship Day! Use the colours you love to create some fun and cute friendship bands and start gifting to all your lovely friends. Here’s a simple way to create one using embroidery thread or wool:
Materials needed
- 3 to 6 colours of embroidery thread or yarn/wool
- Tape or a safety pin
- Scissors
Steps to make a simple braided Friendship Band
- Choose your colours
Pick 3 different colours of thread or yarn (or more if you like). Cut about 60–70 cm (24–28 inches) of each colour.
- Tie a knot
Gather the threads together and tie a knot at one end, leaving a few centimetres at the top for tying later. Tape it to a table or pin it to a cushion.
- Start braiding
Separate the threads into three groups (can be individual or combine colours). Braid them just like you would braid hair:
- Cross the right strand over the middle strand.
- Then, cross the left strand over the new middle strand.
- Repeat until the braid is the length you want (usually 12–15 cm).
- Tie another knot
Once you’re done braiding, tie a knot at the end to secure it.
- Wear or gift it
Tie it around your wrist (or a friend’s wrist) using the two ends. You can also make a loop on one end and thread the loose ends through it to tie.
