Sri Lanka’s first US Navy SEAL Graduate

Lieutenant Koyan Chamitha of the Sri Lanka Navy’s elite Special Boat Squadron (SBS) has etched his name in history by becoming the first Sri Lankan to successfully complete the United States Navy SEAL training program, one of the most gruelling military courses in the world.

An old boy of Bandaranayake College, Gampaha, Lt. Chamitha was awarded the coveted SEAL Trident pin after completing 14 months of training in the U.S. Navy.

The program, known for its extreme mental and physical demands, has a dropout rate of over 75 percent, underscoring the exceptional resilience, discipline, and commitment required to graduate.

With this achievement, Lt. Chamitha not only brings pride to the Sri Lanka Navy but also opens a new chapter for the nation’s armed forces in elite international military collaboration and capability.

Lt. Chamitha currently serves with the Special Boat Squadron (SBS), the Sri Lanka Navy’s premier special operations unit, renowned for its expertise in amphibious and maritime combat. His achievement has been widely hailed across military and civil circles.
