Int’l Child Protection Conference ends today

The International Conference on Child Protection 2025 (ICCP ’25), jointly organised by the University of Kelaniya, National Child Protection Authority (NCPA) and UNICEF Sri Lanka which commenced on Friday (July 25) concludes today (July 27).

The event, hosted by the Centre for Gender Studies of the University of Kelaniya, marks the first international conference in Sri Lanka dedicated exclusively to child protection.

The objectives of the conference are to facilitate evidence-based dialogue on eliminating violence against children, promote collaboration among local and international child protection experts, and provide a platform for researchers, policymakers, practitioners, and media professionals to share knowledge and strategies.

The inauguration ceremony was held on July 25 at the BMICH. The ceremony was held under the patronage of Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramarathne.

Minister of Justice and National Integration, Harshana Nanayakkara, Minister of Health and Mass Media, Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, Minister of Women and Child Affairs Mrs. Saroja Savithri Paulraj, Vice Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya, Senior Professor Nilanthi de Silva, Chairperson of the NCPA, Ms. Preethi Inoka Ranasinghe and Ambassadors were also present.

The presentation of research abstracts had been scheduled for July 26 and 27 at the auditorium of the Faculty of Computing and Technology, University of Kelaniya.

The conference is supported by the European Union-funded JURE Project (Support to the Justice Sector), and is jointly implemented by UNICEF, UNDP, and the Ministry of Justice.

Participants include representatives, researchers, and experts from around the world, including Sri Lanka, India, Russia, the United States, the United Kingdom and Japan.
