A mosque tour for media personnel was held on July 14 at the historic Kollupitiya Jumma Mosque, on the theme “Welcome to our Mosque”.
The event was organised by the Centre for Islamic Studies Harmony Centre in collaboration with the Muslim Women’s Research and Action Forum and supported by Diakonia.
The program brought together a diverse group of media professionals from the print, electronic, and social platforms. A highlight of the event was the guided mosque tour conducted in Sinhala, Tamil, and English.
Deputy Minister of National Integration, Sheikh Muneer Mulaffer, was the chief tour guide for the Sinhala-speaking participants, providing a commentary on Islamic teachings and practices.
The other segments of the tour included a Q&A session, a poster walkthrough on Islamic values and Muslim contributions, an Arabic Calligraphy Corner, a Henna Corner for ladies, a free Literature Corner addressing misconceptions about Islam, and the serving of traditional Muslim cuisine.
Participants expressed strong appreciation for the event, and the organisers indicated plans to replicate such outreach efforts in the future.
