Wesley College delivered a stunning blow as they brought down the high riding Royal College outfit 24-17 in their Inter-Schools Under-19 League Rugby Tournament Cup Championship match played at the Royal Sports Complex in Colombo yesterday.
The Wesleyites collected their points from four tries and two conversions after leading 7-5 at half time while Royal responded with three tries and one conversion.
The honours were even in the first half as both teams scored a try each and also missed out a couple of scoring opportunities.
But Royal hit back soon after the break as they took the lead (12-7) for the first time with a converted try in the 37th minute. After a few anxious moments Wesley regained the lead (14-12) with another converted try in the 53rd minute.
The visitors went on to touch down again and made it 19-12 in the 60th minute before Royal came back strongly with an unconverted try.
However, Wesley added the finishing touches in style as they went on to score a try in injury time to record a memorable victory in the end.
