The Old Boys of St. Anthony’s College, Wattala organized Six-a-Side Cricket Tourney as part of their 75th Anniversary was won by the Thurstan College Colombo when they defeated Maris Stella College Negombo in the final.

The Girls tourney was won by Anula Vidyalaya of Nugegoda. Anula girls beat St. Anthony’s Girls School Kandy in the final. The tournament played under the theme ‘Coexistence through Sport’ attracted 24 teams from all parts of the country.

All matches were played at the R. Premadsa Stadium giving an opportunity for outstation schools to play for the first time on an International Stadium. This decision was taken with the view of giving the young cricketers from rural areas to play on this magnificent stadium which will be of great value to them.

Many interesting things happened during the tourney as most of the leading cricket playing schools from Colmbo and Kandy were defeated by lesser known teams from the outstations. Specially the Boys from Zahira College, Kalnunai came up with the best performance to defeat the Colombo Royalists which was the highlight in the first round.

The leading schools that failed to live up to expectations were St. Peter’s, Trinity, S.Thomas’, Ananda and Nalanda.

In the Girls tournament the final was played between Anula VIdyalaya and St. Anthony’s Girls School, Kandy which saw an interesting game dominated by the Nugegoda girls.

On the final day State Minister for Defense Ruwan Wijewardena graced the occasion as chief guest and gave away the awards.
