The Western Music Society of Hillwood College, Kandy staged ‘Orphans 2018’ at the Mahinda Rajapaksa Auditorium, Polgolla, Kandy recently.
Samith Mahavidanage Perera a music composer, arranger and conductor led the college’s Chamber Orchestra. A talented musician he conducts the Chamber Orchestra at Hillwood in collaboration with Moshani Fernando, the teacher-in charge of Western music. Hillwood is now the only school in Kandy to have Chamber music available for the children.
He is a member of the Royal School of Music, and had his formal study of music from Daya Bandara Illangakoon, Mangalika Fonseka, the late Somapala Ratnayake and Hans Zeritgraf of Germany among many others. Samith Perera has conducted orchestras for both recording and live performances with the Symphony Orchestra of Sri Lanka.
