At Sweet Sixteen

1 March, 2020

A song you’d learnt at sweet sixteen
‘Poor little Angeline’ A blue bird said
Coz your name sake, you loved‘t was said
And sang and danced, the blue bird said.
I’d like to write a verse of this song
To be read by your children dear
So they may know, how happy you’d been
That tender age, when you were sixteen.
The Song:
“She was sweet sixteen, little Angeline
Always dancing on the Village green
As the boys passed by
She would hear them cry: ............
“Poor little Angeline”
Paintings done in your sweet teens
Taught by Miss Shepherd, your teacher dear
Hauntingly beautiful, they were I saw
An artist you’d been, of class number one.
Talents you’ve passed to us with love
Music, Art whatever they be
To spend our days with meaningful deeds
Thank you dear Mum with our hearts and souls.
Michael Prince Charming, you met at sixteen
“Who is that pretty young thing?” he asked
Fell in love, the blue bird said
And took your hand at ‘Villa Alexandra’.
Wedding bells chimed at the Church of St. John
In Nineteen Twenty Eight, the Sixth of June
To say I do forever more
With blessings from the Lord, of the heavens above.
A charming bride your photo says
In Ivory silk and silver lace
Madonna lilies with ribbons cascading
Had been your choice, for this happy day.
It’s sad to think you are no more
A lady of grace, good natured and true
We send flying kisses with all our love
And wish you’d be a shimmering star!
