A Molecular Biology Laboratory was opened at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) by the Health Ministry to perform PCR Tests for the passengers arriving from foreign countries, Health Ministry spokesman said.
The Health Ministry provided medical equipment worth Rs. 50 million for this new laboratory which can perform 500 PCR Tests per day. Testing will be commenced from next Monday (13th). The capacity of this new laboratory will be increased up to 1000 PCR Tests per day soon. A PCR Test done from outside cost Rs. 6500.
