Galaxy Cup VB Championship gets underway

Navy women and Mahauswewa women made a great impact winning three matches each at the Galaxy Cup under-23 Volleyball Championship that got underway at the Volleyball House in Dadalla on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Air Force women recorded two wins up to Thursday evening. Two games that aroused most interest that went the full distance were the games between Army and Super Kings SC and Air Force and Vijayaba SC from Hungama.

After losing the first set the Airwomen fought gallantly to win the second set over Vijayaba SC. At the end of the fourth set both teams had won two sets each and the Airwomen used all their experience to clinch the fifth and deciding set on 15-13.

Army women too faced stiff challenge from Super Kings SC from Ampara. After losing the first two sets Army women came back strongly to clinch the next three sets going to the wire in a thrilling finish. The men’s tourney is scheduled to commence today.
