Sri Lanka hunts for new football coach

17 October, 2021

Football Sri Lanka (FSL) is bidding to recruit a qualified candidate as the National coach for the senior team which is likely to be finalised with the next few weeks.

After almost two years as the head coach, Amir Alagic will move on to a higher role as Technical Director and football’s governing body is in the process of negotiating with a few recognised coaches on the international scene with one of them already earmarked in Portugal.

An FSL official said they are looking at the possibility of obtaining the services of two coaches one for a short stint and another for a long period of three years or more.

The idea behind the short term is to gear up the National team for the upcoming inaugural quadrangular tournament scheduled to kick-off in Sri Lanka involving the Maldives, Bangladesh and Seychelles from November 8 to 18 for the Mahinda Rajapaksa Trophy at the Race Course Stadium in Colombo.

The FSL is in a major revamp programme to rejuvenate the national team’s performance and raise its FIFA ranking where Sri Lanka is placed at 205.
