Sri Lanka’s girls win, boys lose

Sri Lanka’s tennis girls finished unbeaten and qualified to the next round to be held in Thailand when they crushed Nepal 3-0 in the 14 and under ITF World Junior Asia/Oceania qualifying round played at the SLTA courts yesterday.

The two singles and the doubles matches were won easily by the Sri Lankan lasses when they defeated their opponents without giving away a single set.

Meanwhile, the boys’ team finished fourth when they lost to Pakistan 0-3 yesterday as they could not win a single set in their two singles matches while in the doubles match they had a close game in the first set but lost narrowly 6 (2)-7.

With this loss the boys failed to qualify for the next round to be played in Thailand.

Girls: Sri Lanka beat Nepal 3-0

Dinara de Silva beat Sunira Thapa 6-2, 6-3.
Arushi Thomasge beat Adya Pondyal 6-3, 6-1.

Doubles: Dinara de Silva and Oneli Samarawickrama beat Adya Pondyal and Jenny Khadka 6-3, 6-2.

Boys: Pakistan beat Sri Lanka 3-0

Ali Rizwan beat Lithum Jayabandu 6-1, 6-1.
Humza Roman beat Ganuka Fernando 6-0, 6-3.

Doubles: Hamza Roman and Ahtesham Humayun beat Ganuka Fernando and Lithum Jayabandu 7-6(2), 6-2 (TBR)
