India beat Sri Lanka in Asia Cup final

India dominated from start to finish to win their seventh women’s Asia Cup title, beating Sri Lanka by eight wickets with 69 balls to spare in Sylhet, Bangladesh yesterday.

Sri Lanka women batted first and could only manage to score 65 runs for nine wickets off their 20 overs. Only two batters were able to score double figures.

Renuka Singh did the early damage when she captured a hat-trick during the power play giving away only five runs. This display earned her the Player of the Match award.

The Indian women raced to the target in 8.3 overs with Smriti Mandhana almost single handedly guiding them to victory. She scored an unbeaten 51 runs inclusive of three sixes and six fours and faced only 25 deliveries. This included a match winning six to finish on 71 for two wickets.

India’s Deepti Sharma was named Player of the Series.
