Children are the future owners of the planet Earth. As young nature lovers, they must save natural resources for future needs while using them wisely.
So it is important to learn how to make our farming practices sustainable to obtain a good harvest that is healthy and nutritious without polluting the environment. We have to find ways and means to minimise the wastage of water, conserve the soil, conserve biodiversity and use organic fertiliser instead of chemical fertiliser. There are lots of indigenous and modern cultivation methods which we can apply successfully to make our farming sustainable and nature-friendly.
The Apollo International School, Kandy, Grade 6-A students did their school project themed ‘Sustainable Farming for Better Future’.
Damsak Rambukwella, Wasath Athukorala, Dulakshi Gurudeniya, Irundi Alahakoon, Esandi Wijekoon, Pahasara Harischandra, Vinupa Hettipathirana, Vinulya Weerasooriya, Leon Ekanayake, Rashmi Wickramaarachchi, Sihara Wanigasekara, Keshini Adikaram, Dhaanish Perera, Gayanendrika Randeniya, Rukshitha Fernando, Lehansa Ekanayake and Hirun Wickramanayake took part under the guidance of the class teacher Ms. Yashodha Polgolla.
