Sri Lanka has won the bid to host the ‘Miss and Mrs. Top of The World’ beauty pageant in Colombo next year.
At a media briefing, actress Oshadie Hewamadduma said that over 25 countries will field participants for the event and it would have huge global viewership.
The event will also be a platform to encourage foreign tourists to visit the island after all the bad press in the international media about the country and project an image that Sri Lanka is a safe and peaceful country to visit.
She said that in preparation for this the first Sri Lanka ‘Miss Nature Queen’ beauty pageant will be held on December 31 at the Galle Face Green, a free open event for the public. “Over 100 participated in the preliminary rounds of the contest making it one of the largest post-Covid beauty pageants in the country in terms of the number of national-level competitors to participate in the finals.”
Rajitha Tennakoon of RE Events (Pvt). Ltd, a co-host of this event said that from next year ‘Miss Nature Queen’ will be held with international participation to promote local agricultural products to the world market.
“This would be the first time a beauty pageant will promote agri products to the world and we have also discussed with the Export Development Board, the Ministry of Agriculture and Foreign Affairs to promote this event,” she said. - SS
