Donald Trump becomes the first former US President to face criminal Charges

31 March, 2023

Seventy six year old former US President Donald Trump has been indicted by a grand jury after an investigation into hush money paid to a porn star Stormy Daniels.

Investigation into the matter was led by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg. If proven, this will affect Trump's ability to run for re-elections in 2024.

Trump is expected to fly to Manhattan for processing next week.

Trump had denied all allegations and his legal team has vowed to fight the charges vigorously. He is the first serving or former US president to ever face a criminal charge.

According to Reuters, specific charges are not yet known, as the indictment remains under seal. In the meantime, CNN reported that Trump faces more than 30 counts related to business fraud. Furthermore, Trump’s business was recently prosecuted for tax fraud where he received a penalty of USD 1.61 million.
