The eighth Boat and Marine Show organised by the Chamber of Marine Industries Sri Lanka (CMISL) will be held on October 27, 28 and 29 at the Port City Colombo.

Show Organising Committee Chairman Sharzan Ramesh Perera said that ‘Made in Sri Lanka’ boats and yachts have a good level of acceptance internationally.

“This event will help us to boost and increase our overseas market sales via exposure to foreigners who are due attend the event,” he said.

CMISL Chairman, Kaushal Rajapaksa said that their aim was to showcase local quality of work and skills and technology with all other boat-building countries of the world.

“Currently Sri Lanka has a MoU in place with the Maldives to build and export boats and yachts. Two other MoUs are to be finalised with Korea and South Africa soon. We are also a part of the International Council of Marine Industry Associations (ICOMIA) which represents the Global Marine Industry.

“ICOMIA brings together national marine industry associations in one global organisation and represents them at international level, presenting a strong and united voice when dealing with issues challenging the industry,” he said.

Rajapaksa said that the Export Development Board (EDB) and Ministry of Industries are also assisting the industry in a professional manner by providing their unstinting support in all matters.

Minister of Tourism and Lands Harin Fernando said the event will display the skills of the local boat building industry.
