27 August, 2023

SeylanTikiri, joined hands with the Primary Section of Hillwood College, Kandy to provide a practical learning experience on the functioning of a marketplace, known as a ‘Pola,’ to primary students. The event took place recently at the school premises, attracting the participation of over 800 students from grades 1 to 5.

The collaborative initiative aimed to introduce young learners to essential financial concepts such as money, savings, markets, customers, goods and services. By immersing the students in a hands-on experience, SeylanTikiri and Hillwood College Kandy sought to enhance their financial literacy from an early age. The engagement of students, parents and teachers in this endeavour further contributed to the success of the event.

In an era dominated by digital technology and the pursuit of academic achievements, the enthusiasm displayed by both parents and children toward the program was quite positive. In line with the feedback received from participants which was overwhelmingly positive, SeylanTikiri will continue to conduct similar engaging and educational children’s events in the future.

Seylan Bank Marketing and Sales Assistant General Manager Gamika De Silva said, “We are delighted to partner with Hillwood College in hosting ‘Tikiri Pola’ and providing this valuable experience for primary students. SeylanTikiri is committed to fostering financial literacy among young learners, and this collaborative initiative allows us to introduce essential financial concepts in a fun and engaging way.

We are pleased with the overwhelming positive feedback and look forward to conducting more of such educational events for Tikiri Kids in the future.”

Hillwood College Principal Nelum De Alwis said, “At Hillwood College, we believe in empowering our students with practical learning that goes beyond academics. The collaboration with SeylanTikiri for ‘Tikiri Pola’ allowed our primary students to gain hands-on knowledge about marketplaces and financial concepts, fostering their financial literacy from an early age. We are thankful for this partnership and the positive impact it has had on our students’ learning journey.”

The collaboration between SeylanTikiri and Hillwood College, Kandy serves as a testament to the shared dedication to empowering the next generation with the essential skills for a prosperous future.
