The United Kingdom (UK) is on track to meet the education export target of £35 billion by 2030 with over 600,000 students, and Sri Lanka is one of the key markets as the United Kingdom is the third largest education destination for Sri Lanka, said British Deputy High Commissioner Lisa Whanstall.
She was speaking as the chief guest at the launch of partnership between Queen Margaret University (QMU) United Kingdom and Imperial College of Business Studies (ICBS) Sri Lanka at Kingsbury Hotel, Colombo recently.
Whanstall said that from 2021 onwards, to meet the £35 billion ambition by 2030, an average annual increase in export revenue of a little over 3% per year is needed.
“In 2020, the total UK revenue from education-related exports and transnational education activity was £25.6 billion and with 679,970 students in 2021/22, the UK has met the IES international student ambition. This represents an increase of 0.8% since 2019,” she said.
Director Operations, Imperial College of Business Studies, Chintaka Wjeratna said with its strong panel of lecturers comprising multidisciplinary high-level academics, industry leaders, and experts, the college aims to commence the intake of these programs at their campuses in Colombo and Kandy in September.
Students after completing the Advanced Level Examination , or any other Diploma or equivalent level qualifications in either professional or academic disciplines can seek enrolment for the BSc (Hons) Special Degrees.
