The beach clean-up in progress

Hameedia, has again contributed towards ensuring environment protection in Sri Lanka by organising a beach cleanup project titled “Wella Beach Upgrade” at the Wellawatte beach as part of the “Re-Build Sri Lanka” initiative.

The event was spearheaded by Hameedia’s CSR arm Lifeworth with partner organisations Sri Lanka Life Saving and Rainbow Swimming.

The Wellawatte Beach is one of the most iconic beaches in Sri Lanka with its beautiful blue water and golden sand. It is frequented by thousands of visitors including large families and groups, adventurous travellers, fitness enthusiasts and foreign tourists. The beach provides a number of useful amenities such as beach restaurants, changing rooms, showers, and bathrooms allowing the visitors to safely swim in the crystal clear waters or play on the sandy beach.

Hameedia’s Managing Director Fouzul Hameed said, “Hameedia is an organisation that has understood the important role we can play in the preservation of our environment by cleaning polluted areas, reducing waste, saving energy, and also creating greater awareness of the numerous ecological challenges the world is facing today.

“This beach clean-up project is a testament to our commitment towards creating a cleaner Sri Lanka and thereby preserving our planet for future generations. With tourist arrivals increasing steadily, it is vital that we ensure that our stunning beaches are kept as clean as possible throughout the year.

“Through our CSR-arm, Lifeworth, we have been able to successfully conduct several such beach cleanups in the past and will continue to do so into the future to combat pollution and keep Sri Lanka beautiful,” he said.

As a responsible organisation committed towards the environment Hameedia’s beach cleanup effort nurtures an environmentally conscious mindset among its employees while also helping to get rid of all forms of pollution visible on the beach.

Therefore, this event served to bring the Hameedia staff and members of the partner organisations together and provided them with the opportunity to demonstrate their love for the environment while making a tangible difference to one of the most popular beaches in the country.

By cultivating a work culture where each and every employee is educated on how to be an environmentally conscious citizen, Hameedia empowers them to make a positive impact on the environment not merely in their professional lives but also in their daily lives, with their families, friends and relatives.
