President Ranil Wickremesinghe has instructed to transfer the administrative and operational control of the controversial Batticaloa Sharia University to the Sri Lanka University of Technology.
The Batticaloa Campus, which had been under the military’s jurisdiction for an extended period following the tragic Easter attacks, was originally owned by former Eastern Province Governor M.L.A.M. Hizbullah.
A meeting chaired by the President’s Chief of Staff Sagala Ratnayake said that the University, in Punani, Batticaloa, would now operate in keeping with the Sri Lanka University of Technology’s protocols, and plans to introduce cutting-edge subjects such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) into its curriculum.
This campus in Batticaloa has fully equipped buildings and facilities, which led to the Government’s decision to maintain it under the auspices of the Sri Lanka University of Technology.
