State Vesak festival in Matale

The State Vesak festival will be held in Matale under the patronage of President Ranil Wickremesinghe.

The festival will begin on Tuesday, May 21 under the patronage of Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena and President Wickremesinghe will attend it on May 23.

The Vesak festival will be held for a week, till May 27. The opening ceremony will be held at the Dharmaraja Pirivena premises, Matale and the closing ceremony at the Millawana Sri Sunandaramaya of the Pallepola Sasanarakshaka Mandalaya.

The Kalalpitiya Purana Vihara will be declared a Sacred City at this year’s State Vesak festival and arrangements have also been made to conduct religious programs on Ukuwela Anuruda Arana, Matale under the patronage of Ven. Mugunuwela Anuruddha Thera, Registrar of the All Island Sasanarakshaka Mandalaya.

Religious and social service programs covering 11 Divisional Secretariat divisions will be held in the Matale district.
