St. Lawrence’s Convent, Colombo 6, celebrated the start of its 125th anniversary year on August 16, 2024, with a ceremony at the school. The event included performances by students and recognised the school’s achievements in academics and extracurricular activities.
Rt. Rev. Dr. Maxwell Silva, Auxiliary Bishop of Colombo was the chief guest. Other dignitaries,
well-wishers, teachers, students, and parents were also present.
The ceremony began with a Holy Mass, followed by performances from the school’s dance troupes, choirs, and both Western and Eastern bands.
St. Lawrence’s Convent was founded as Lawrence Villa in 1900 by Mrs. Janet Poulier.
Over the years, it has become a well-known Catholic girls’ school. The school is currently led by Rev. Sr. Mary Dilrukshi, who continues the work of the Sisters of the Good Shepherd Congregation in guiding students.
The 125th anniversary marks a significant milestone in the school’s history, highlighting its contributions to education and the community.
