The vibrant city of Colombo, Sri Lanka, is set to become a hub of artistic talent and cultural interaction with the upcoming Colombo Art Expo 2024. Scheduled to take place at the JDA Perera Gallery from September 6 to 9, 2024, this international art exhibition is curated by the renowned MD Imran Hossen and organised by the NSG artists group in collaboration with the Faculty of Arts at the University of the Visual and Performing Arts.
The expo promises to be a four-day extravaganza, to be inaugurated on September 6 at 5 pm, marking the beginning of a celebration dedicated to creativity and cultural exchange. With an impressive lineup of works from 40 artists across the globe, the exhibition will showcase an array of artistic expressions, including paintings, sculptures, ceramics, and printmaking.
Speaking to the Sunday Observer, the exhibition curator Imran Houssen said, “Before this Colombo Art Expo 2024, we had the Jakarta Art Expo and the Bali Art Expo, and the Colombo Art Expo will be the newest addition. After this, we hope to have the Malaysian and Mexico Art Expos.
This initiative was formed with the intention of creating a platform for Asian artists to share their knowledge, talents, and engage in cultural exchange within the region. After the inauguration, there will be an art workshop and art camp conducted by Jagath Weerasighe, and on September 10, there will be an art and sculpture demonstration.”
Art lovers will be delighted to discover that the exhibition features diverse talent, with 25 artists hailing from Bangladesh, 12 from Sri Lanka including Jagath Weerasignhe and Jagath Ravindra and others, 5 from India, and a host of additional artists from Nepal, Singapore, Indonesia, Uzbekistan, and Mexico. This rich tapestry of creativity highlights not only the local talent but also the cultural dialogues that occur when artists from different backgrounds converge.
