Buddhist Ladies College, Colombo 7 (BLC) celebrated a momentous occasion on their 70th-anniversary celebrations on August 17, 2024 with a carnival, walk, and after party. The walk began after a pledge was taken, and the national and school flags were raised by Chairman, Mohanlal De Mel and the Principal, Sandamali Aviruppola.
Starting from the school premises, the students walked towards Green Path and then back to the school, with over 3,000 participants in attendance, including students, staff, parents, past pupils and well-wishers. In commemoration of the anniversary, various events took place this year such as a pirith ceremony, an alms-giving for 70 mehenin wahanses, a band show, BEATS musical show and the night dinner dance.
Since its establishment in 1954, the school has been dedicated to nurturing young women who contribute significantly to society in various professional fields. The school is proud of its alumni, who are now professionals, effective community leaders, and responsible citizens. Held after a ten-year hiatus, the walk had a great turnout despite the rain. The students› and attendees’ spirits were visible even when the rain didn’t abate. Over 20 cars were in the parade, accompanied by the school bands and a ‘papare’ band.
The carnival at the school premises prior to and after the walk also had many food, games and other stalls.
These events are for the school’s development projects, enhancing educational facilities and infrastructure.
