Women’s hockey at one of the pioneer clubs, Burgher Recreation Club (BRC), produced some of its old charm to win the League tournament, organized by the Colombo Hockey Association as they beat Nomads Hockey Club 2-0 in the final League match on September 17 at S. Thomas’ College ground at Mount Lavinia.

In grabbing the title the BRC girls produced an outstanding performance led by Nishali Dahanayake.

The club said their success with the new crop of players can be attributed as a testament to their dedication, skill and teamwork, solidifying BRC’s status as one of the top women’s hockey teams in the country. Women’s hockey at BRC dates back to 1932 and their current success comes after a lapse of several years of being in the wilderness and according to the club the team has re-established itself as a consistent performer, reaffirming its place among the top teams.
