Held in conjunction with the school’s 100th anniversary, the event brought together over 150 teachers from the Ananda Balika past teachers’ group, each one a pillar of knowledge and inspiration. Nearly 150 past students from five different generations also gathered. This symbolised the deep-rooted connection between the school and its alumni.

The sense of unity, respect and celebration of the school’s history filled the air, making it a historic occasion. The event unfolded in a beautifully arranged program, starting with the traditional gesture of offering betel leaves to the teachers — symbolic of reverence and respect. Following this the teachers were presented with brooches, a visual symbol of their lasting contributions.

Individual portraits and group photos were captured, ensuring these precious moments would live on as cherished memories.

The students sang the school anthem, paying homage to the institution that had shaped them. A poignant minute of silence followed, remembering the teachers who had passed on but whose influence lives on in every corner of Ananda Balika. Heartfelt speeches, vibrant cultural performances and emotional personal stories shared by both past teachers and students filled the room, creating an atmosphere of deep connection and shared memories.

The gathering was not only a tribute but also a symbolic bridge between Ananda Balika’s illustrious past and its vibrant present. Every teacher was presented with a thoughtfully curated gift pack, a tangible symbol of the gratitude and admiration they have earned over decades of service.

These gifts, generously sponsored by the alumni, embodied the enduring bond of respect that past students hold for their teachers.

The principal, Ganaga Kumuduni expressed her pride in witnessing such a meaningful celebration. “This initiative is one of the best ways students can honour their teachers,” she said, and added “It speaks volumes about the enduring legacy of Ananda Balika.”

The event was made possible through the dedication of a group of Ananda Balika alumni who worked tirelessly to bring this tribute to life. Dayani Thiramavithana, the head prefect of 1985, shared the alumni’s heartfelt goal and said, “Our aim was simple – to express our deep gratitude and admiration for the incredible teachers who have shaped our lives. We sincerely hope we succeeded in conveying just how deeply they are cherished and appreciated.”
