Minister of Health and Mass Media Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa held discussions with the management of Sri Jayewardenepura General Hospital to modernise services at the hospital and expand treatment services.
This followed the Minister’s observation tour of the hospital recently to mark its 40th anniversary and to look into the expansion and effective implementation of treatment services. The Sri Jayewardenepura General Hospital which commenced in 1984 with 1001 beds was a donation from the Japanese Government to Sri Lanka. The hospital has been built in keeping with Japanese architecture.
The Minister inspected the hospital premises, including the wards and rooms and paid special attention to patient care services, staff needs including specialists, doctors, nurses and treatment services provided by the hospital.
The Minister held discussions with hospital staff and inquired into their problems. The Minister inquired into the facilities and services provided to inpatients and the clinics at the hospital and services that should be added in the future.
He said the Sri Jayewardenepura General Hospital was the oldest and largest state entity providing tertiary care and was a people-oriented service given at the lowest rates without considering profits. The Minister called upon the staff to provide quality treatment to patients visiting the hospital. The Minister instructed officials to maintain the hospital as a quality and efficient hospital by taking the right decisions.
