Held at the Waters Edge Main Ballroom, the event was sold out with an audience of 1,000 attendees who witnessed a show that redefined live entertainment in Sri Lanka by meeting international standards. Yohani’s much-anticipated return to the Sri Lankan stage after three years was met with overwhelming enthusiasm as she delivered a 90-minute performance that showcased her original tracks, Sinhala and Hindi covers, and songs from her Grammy-considered album “Kella.” Her performances featured live instrumentation, including acoustic and electric guitars, a baby grand piano, and dynamic dance routines that captivated the audience.

Dilanjan Seneviratne, founder and CEO of Outright Play conceptualised and produced the event as part of the company’s vision to elevate Sri Lankan artists onto the global stage. Dilanjan said, “Outright Stage is more than just a concert; it’s a movement to show the world Sri Lankan talent.

This event is a milestone for Yohani and every local artist who dreams of performing on a world stage. Tonight, we proved that Sri Lanka can deliver world-class performances.”

The event also introduced debut performances from rising talents Amarsha Tissera and Rumalki Raveesha, who brought fresh energy and originality to the evening. Surprise appearances by FunkyDirt further added to the excitement of the night.

The concert design took inspiration from the casual charm of a backyard music session, creating a relaxed yet premium atmosphere for attendees. Indoor benches complemented the high production benchmark set for the event, and Yohani’s segment dedicated to the title sponsor, Prima Kottu Mee, featuring a Baila-themed performance, was a particular highlight. Another unforgettable moment came when Yohani performed her acoustic track “Nangiya,” joined on stage by her sister, who accompanied Yohani with the piano, leaving the audience spellbound.

MasterCard, a key event partner, powered this debut concert as part of its commitment to enriching local cultural experiences. Sandun Hapugoda, Country Manager for MasterCard Sri Lanka and Maldives, shared, “MasterCard is proud to support initiatives that bring world-class experiences to Sri Lanka. Outright Stage exemplifies the innovation and creativity of Sri Lankan talent. Partnering with Outright Play on this event is a testament to our shared vision of fostering growth and creating priceless moments for audiences and artists alike.”

The success of “Outright Stage: Volume 1” marks the beginning of a bi-annual series that will continue to showcase Sri Lanka’s musical talent while delivering world-class entertainment.

With plans to tour this performance concept internationally, Outright Play is set to propel Sri Lankan artists to global prominence. Social media was abuzz with posts and videos from the concert, amplifying its impact far beyond the venue.

In a statement, Yohani reflected on the event, saying, “It was an honour to return to my home stage after three years and feel the love and energy of my fans. The night was unforgettable, and I’m grateful to Outright Play and all our sponsors for making this happen.”

Outright Play remains committed to transforming local artists into global icons. The company plans to hold live events twice yearly, featuring diverse artists while staying true to its innovative format.

“This is just the beginning. We want Sri Lanka to believe that our artists have the talent and stage presence to stand among the best in the world. Outright Play is here to make that a reality,” Dilanjan added.
