Chamod is overall winner of cycling race

Chamod de Silva of Police Cycling Club emerged as the overall champion at the 26th Tour de Air Force three-day cycling race, which concluded at the Galle Face Green in Colombo on Sunday (2).

A total distance of 414 kilometres was covered in 9:13.52 over three days by De Silva and was presented with Rs. 350,000 in prize money.

This event coincided with the 74th anniversary of Sri Lanka Air Force but also it was conducted for the 26th consecutive year.

Veteran rider Sandaruwan Pinto of the Army finished a close second in a time of 9:13.58s and was also presented with a cash award of Rs. 200,000.

Another rider from the Army CC Harindu Meemanage finished third in a time of 9:15.21s.

The race saw 167 riders face the starter that was held in three stages. Army Cycling Club (ACC) emerged as the team champions while Air Force CC finished second and Navy CC were placed third.

The first stage held from Weerawila to Ratnapura was won by Suresh Prasanga of Navy CC (2:51.58s), the second stage from Ratnapura to Kandy was won by Chamod de Silva of Police SC (3:01.58s) and the third and final stage from Kandy to Colombo was won by Saranga Perera of Army CC (3:18.48s).
