Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe has started a program to increase the National Sports Fund by rupees one billion.
These funds will be used for the development of Sri Lankan sports under the existing provisions for sportspersons, coaches as well as physical and other infrastructure in the sports field.
Children who are good at sports in remote villages will be identified and provided for further training.
These funds will also be given to sportspersons for their nutritional intake. They will also be paid for undertaking local and foreign training programs.
There is also a plan to make payments to sportspersons on retirement for farewell that will help them even during their old age.
The National Sports Fund was established in accordance with the provisions of the Sports Act No. 25 of 1973 of the Assembly of a National State. According to the Act, money received from the government, aid money received from a foreign country, money given for sponsoring a sports team or a sports event, money received by a certain person through donation are credited to the fund.
If everything that has been planned by the ministry works well the sportspersons will be able to live without any hitches until his or her death.
