Maldives Matrix that comprised of girls who were fasting during Ramadhan routed the Sri Lanka Nationalised Services team by a massive 92 points to just two on the first day at the Sri Lions International Invitation Netball League tournament played at St. Joseph’s Indoor Stadium in Colombo yesterday.

Their strength was in the two tall girls who manned the vital positions of goal shooter and goal keeper that gave them the vital points. Goal shooter Aishath Saleema did the bulk of the scoring with her clear collections of the high ball and accurate shooting.

On the other hand goal keeper Aminath Ibrahim protected the goal area with her height that made it easy for her to reach out and intercept the passes sent to her opponent goal shooter Sumudu Kathalamalage.

On the other hand the Nationalised Services team was weakened with the absence of players from Ports Authority who kept away due to exams.

However they fielded quite a competent team but the lasses from the Maldives played hard and tirelessly.

In another game the visiting Sri Lions also registered an easy win over the Nationalised Services team by 86 points to 12 in a league game played in the morning.

Sri Lions team began the tournament with a good win over the Maldives Matrix by 57 points to 44 in the first match of the day.

The lasses from Sri Lions played a fast game with quick passes to get over the height advantage of the Maldivians that helped them to emerge victorious. In another game State Services beat Kotalawela Defence University by 42 points to 17 also played earlier in the day.
