The IMF has agreed to provide US$ 1,900 million for the next three years – 2025, 2026 and 2027, according to the staff-level agreement signed by President Ranil Wickremesinghe in his capacity as the Minister of Finance, Economic Stabilisation and National Policies with the IMF under the Extended Fund Facility on September 1, 2022 to strengthen Sri Lanka’s economy.
An agreement has been reached to provide the Budgetary support of US$ 700 million in 2025, US$ 600 million in 2026 and US$ 600 million in 2027 to prepare the Budgets.
A public finance analyst said if the IMF agreements are not followed, the Government will have to face a huge financial crisis regardless of what is stated in Presidential Election manifestos.
