President Ranil Wickremesinghe said that a Gokulam Centre (a centre to learn Hinduism) which was a long-felt need will be built for the Koneswaran Kovil, Trincomalee.

He said the Trincomalee district will be developed in keeping with a promise he had made to the late Parliamentarian R. Sampanthan as a mark of respect.

The President was addressing the Puluwan Sri Lanka victory rally in Trincomalee yesterday (August 31) to ensure his victory at the upcoming Presidential Election.

The President said that Koneswaran, an old kovil, is being worshiped by Hindus as Dakshina Kailas and added that he will rectify any shortcomings.

The President said that the problems of the Civil Defence Forces in Trincomalee will also be resolved.

He said that no Government has developed the Trincomalee Port and added that he will commence the program to develop Trincomalee together with the Indian Government.

President Wickremesinghe said the late Sampanthan had made several requests to him to develop Trincomalee and he would fulfill that promise.
