Local Govt elections early next year – Minister Vijitha Herath

Local Government elections will be held at the beginning of next year, said Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism, Vijitha Herath told the media in Kandy on Friday. He said the Supreme Court has issued a ruling to hold the Local Government elections as soon as possible. However, the necessary provisions were not allocated to conduct the elections this year.

“Therefore, the Local Government elections will he held at the beginning of next year. We are prepared to hold the elections for the Pradeshiya Sabhas and Urban Councils,” the Minister added.
