Dr. T.B. Jayah to be remembered on Feb. 19

Conference of Sri Lankan Malays (COSLAM) will mark the 127th birth anniversary of educationist, statesman, diplomat and a national hero, Al Haj Dr. T.B. Jayah, at a public meeting, on Sunday, February 19 at the New Town Hall, Ananda Coomaraswamy Mawatha, Colombo 7 commencing 9.30 a.m.

The chief guest will be Wan Zaidi Wan Abdullah, Malaysian High Commissioner in Sri Lanka while Dr. Ameena Cassim, Senior Lecturer, University of Peradeniya will deliver the Dr. T.B. Jayah Oration.

The meeting will be held in conjunction with Hari Bahasa Melayu Ke-10 (10th Malay Language Day), a day dedicated to the preservation and development of the Malay Language in Sri Lanka. On this day, the prize-winners of competitions held on Malay Language Day will receive their prizes whilst the winners of the oratorical competition will deliver their prize-winning speeches.

COSLAM will also felicitate Edward Chandrasiri for the yeoman services rendered by him to the Malay community, by authoring the treatise “Malaywarunge Abhimanya” and for numerous articles published in the national newspapers.
