 Policemen save two  pilgrims

Two pilgrims visiting the Somawathiya Temple in the Pulasthipura Police Division were swept away by the rapids while bathing in a Mahaweli river on Friday afternoon. Two police officers, PC 12473 Bandula and PC 62403 who were on lifeguard duty at the time saved the two and administered first aid. The victims were handed over to their relatives by the Police.

Cannabis chenas raided


Officers of the Ella Police station raided a cannabis chena on Friday. Acting on a tip off, the Police discovered half an acre cannabis chena in Karamatiara, Ella. One person was nabbed during the raid. The 30-year-old suspect is said to be a resident of Ethiliwewa. Ella Police are carrying out further investigations.
Siyambalanduwa Police also raided a cannabis chena on Friday arresting a 21-year-old in the process.

Motorcyclist killed

A motorcyclist succumbed to his injuries following a collision with a trishaw in the Thulhiriya area on Friday night. The trishaw had been travelling towards Ambepussa at the time.
The motorcyclist, trishaw driver, and six passengers travelling in the trishaw, including two children, were admitted to the Warakapola Hospital in a serious condition. The motorcyclist later passed away.
The deceased 55-year-old Dias Kumarasiri Jayasekara was a resident of Parakramagama, Thulhiriya. Warakapola Police are carrying out further investigations.
