Trinity to celebrate famous 1967 win Before 2nd Leg of Bradby

The Trinity College 1967 Bradby shield winning team is planning a together on June 2nd to celebrate their famous victory 50 years ago at the CR & FC grounds ,Longden Place,This will be a day prior to the 2nd leg of the Bradby which is scheduled to take place at the Royal College Sports Complex .

Celebrating this landmark will be the players who are in and around with their families. Ajith Abeyarthne who was the captain of the winning side of 1967 and is one of the chief organisers involved in the 50th anniversary reunion. Every member of that team, are looking forward to this memorable occasion. One player of that team who is in Kandy Iswan Omar says recalling fond and nostalgic memories will be the main feature at this get together.

Ajith Abeyartne who led the Kandy school in 1967 has made all arrangements for this celebration. Whenever the topic of the Bradby Shield rugby encounters between Royal and Trinity are discussed, Ajith Abeyratne’s indomitable and invincible team of the 1967 is bound to be discussed prominently.

This year, its 50 years since Ajith Abeyratne led a Trinity College side that created history in this memorable series. Royal was beaten in both legs of the Bradby Shield - 16-3 and again 17-3 – a record for Trinity since the inception of the series in 1945 until 2005 when with the change in the points system in 1992 Trinity won 33-7 and 36-6. Some of the players in the 1967 rugby team were Ajith Abeyarthne (captain), Shafie Jainudeen, Iswan Omar, Gamini Udugama, Alex Lazarus, Stephen Paul , Anil Siriwardene, Dudley Dissanayake , Mahendra Thalwatte , M. Affif , Errol Warne, Mohan Balasuyriya, Jadi Dissanayke, Gorgi Thilakarthne, B.Shanthi Kumar. N.T.B. Dassanayake, Ranjan Nadarajah, Rafi

Ismail, Mark Sundaralingam and Prince Nayagam. The coach was the late Lt. Denzil Kobbekaduwa, C.J. Orloff was the principal.
