BOI holds job fair in hill country

The Board of Investment of Sri Lanka in collaboration with the Ministry of Strategic Development and International Trade, Kandy District Secretariat, Board of Investment and the Export Development Board organized its third Job Fair at St Sylvester College, Kandy recently. The previous job fairs were held at Kurunegala and Avissawella.

The Government has declared this year as the year of poverty alleviation and many programs have been implemented to achieve sustainable development goals.

The Ministry of Strategic Development and International Trade with its main agencies the BOI and the EDB will be holding Job Fairs around the island under the program. The Job Fair created an opportunity for an unemployed youth in the hill country to find suitable employment opportunities. Forty BOI and EDB enterprises participated and about 2,000 job seekers were given an opportunity to meet company representatives and select jobs in diversified fields.

This was a new experience for the youth of the hill country and an opportunity to connect investors to the best human resources available in the country, a spokesman for the organisers said.

Minister of Strategic Development and International Trade, Malik Samarawickrama, Minister of Urban Development and Water Supply and Drainage, Rauf Hakeem, State Minister of International Trade, Sujeewa Senasinghe, MP, Kandy district, Lucky Jayawardane, Secretary, Ministry of Strategic Development and International Trade, Chandani Wijewardane, District Secretary, Kandy, H. M. P. Hitisekera, Chairperson EDB, Indira Malwatte, Director General of BOI Duminda Ariyasinghe, and a large number of Regional Political Representatives were present at the opening of the Job Fair.
