The Ministry of Education has agreed with the Teachers’ Unions to transfer 10,000 school teachers of national schools who have served continuously for over 10 years at the same school before the end of year.
Accordingly, nine provincial level teacher transfer boards will be set up according to the Ministry. Around 12,000 teachers of this category are serving in national schools of which 2,000 are to go on retirement shortly.
Hence, these 2,000 teachers would not be given transfers, the Ministry states.
These decisions were arrived following a meeting held with representatives of nine teacher unions under the patronage of Secretary to Education Ministry Sunil Hettiaarachchi.
