Compensation for paddy farmers

3 September, 2017

Around 106,064 paddy cultivators who suffered losses due to the prevailing drought in the Kurunegala district have qualified to receive compensations and hence, a sum of Rs. 917 million is to be granted to them by the Agriculture Insurance Board.

Assistant Director of Agriculture Insurance Board, Kurunegala U.R.A.K.C. Kemaratne said that all deserving farmers are thus receiving their due compensations and funds are now being deposited to their banks.

However, farmer organizations in the Kurunegala district staged protect campaigns against the Ministry of Agriculture at electoral level over its failure to address the grievances of farmers promptly and that process led to expedite the payment of these compensations, said Kurunegala District Divisional Secretary W.M.Jayathilake while addressing a meeting of paddy farmers in Bingiriya.
