The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce will hold a consultation workshop with the private sector on Wednesday, November 15 to discuss strengthening preparedness and emergency response in Sri Lanka.
The workshop which will be conducted by the Sri Lanka Preparedness Partnership ( SLPP), an initiative of the Asian Disaster Preparedness Centre of Bangkok, which aims to improve the preparedness and emergency response to disasters in Sri Lanka.
SLPP, which has representation from the Disaster Management Centre (DMC), National Disaster Relief Services Center (NDRSC), Center for Humanitarian Affairs (CHA) and the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce (CCC) will conduct sectoral consultations with public, private and civil society actors on the way forward for SLPP in strenthening preparedness and emergency response in Sri Lanka.
The primary objectives of the sectoral consultation workshop will be aimed at introducing Sri Lanka preparedness partnership , identify sectoral level priorities and needs to align with APP objectives and strengthen coordination between public, private and civil society actors at National, District, Divisional level.
The Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC), headquartered in Bangkok which is supported by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, has established the Asian Preparedness Partnership (APP) for improving the preparedness and emergency response to disasters across Asia by strengthening humanitarian leadership and technical capacity of National Governments and Local Humanitarian Organizations.
Six countries namely Cambodia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines and Sri Lanka have been selected as initial partner countries for APP.
