Former Features Editor of the ‘Janatha’ Newspaper and father of Kumudu Gunasekara of the ‘Daily News’ Editorial, Haripriya Gunasekara passed away on Friday.
Gunasekara joined the ‘Lankadeepa’ Newspaper as a cartoonist in 1955, which was his first step in journalism.
Later he joined the ‘Dawasa’ newspaper while making contributions to Lake House publications including ‘Mihira’, ‘Tharuni’, ‘Nawayugaya’, ‘Sarasaviya’ and ‘Budusarana’ as an artist and a photographer.
In 1977, he joined ‘Subasetha’ editorial as Deputy Editor and in 1989 he was appointed Features Editor of the ‘Janatha’ until 1995.
Gunasekara a graduate of the Haywood Institute of Fine Arts, also an astrologer, who had contributed to an astrological column for over four decades.
His remains lie at No. 208, Galwala Road, Dehiwala and the funeral will take place today, December 10 at 2.00 p.m. at the Mount Lavinia cemetery.
