Mattegoda Malay Association together with the Sri Lanka Malay Confederation has made plans for an All Island Malay Badminton Tournament on March 24 marking an inaugural event.

The tournament is scheduled to be held at St.Joseph’s College Indoor Badminton Complex and expected to attract some 100 players from Malay associations around Sri Lanka.

The organisers expect to run the championship in three categories, under 15 Boys and Girls (singles/doubles), Men’s and Women’s Open (singles/doubles/mix doubles) and Men’s and Women’s Veterans (singles/doubles/mix doubles - Over 40 years).

The winners and runners up of each category will be given cash awards along with medals, trophies and certificates according to the organisers. The tournament committee is also looking forward to presenting two return air tickets to Malaysia for the Men’s and Women’s Singles champs.
