Army rugby dominates Defence Services championship

Army’s rugby players displayed indomitable teamwork to win the Defence Services Trophy – 2018 by posting victory against Navy during the final of the Defence Services Rugby Tournament held at Air Force ground in Ratmalana. In the first half, Army comfortably enhanced the lead, signalling what would follow in the end. Although Navy gradually posed stiff resistance to their rivals in a determined manner, Army’s players sustained a formidable resistance and dominated the game scoring 28-23 win. Meanwhile, the Army women’s rugby team were also champions for the year 2018 after they defeated Air Force and Navy during the run-up matches.

Army defeated Air Force 29-21at Welisara. Major General Sathyapriya Liyanage, Chairman, Army Rugby Committee extended his warm greetings to the winners during the presentation ceremony and attended the event as the Chief Guest.

Senior officers were also associated with the prize-awarding ceremony.

Army were placed sixth at the conclusion of the 2017 inter club League.
