Police A in shock Sevens exit

17 June, 2018

Runners-up of the first leg of the inter-club rugby Sevens Police A suffered a shock exit on the first day of the second leg of the championship at the Race Course ground in Colombo yesterday.

They failed to qualify when they lost to CR and FC 24-38 and CH and FC ‘B’ 12-22.

The teams that qualified for today’s quarter finals for the Cup are CR and FC vs Navy B, CH and FC vs CH ‘B’, Police B vs Navy A and Air Force vs Army A.

First leg winners Kandy along with Havelocks pulled out of the second leg citing injuries to players.

CH and FC ‘A’ recorded the highest win for the day when they routed Petersons 53-0 and then went on to beat Navy B 40-5 in qualifying for the Cup.

Navy A and Army A also posted some heavy wins with the former beating Army Keterians 52-7 and the latter striking down Galle RFC 43-5.

Navy A also posted a 41-0 win over Galle RFC while Navy C beat Petersons 43-0.

Heavy rain and mud prevented a better display of rugby due to watery and soggy underfoot conditions.
