1 July, 2018

Funds spent on the construction of the D.A. Rajapaksa Memorial Museum at Weeraketiya, Hambantota by the Sri Lanka Land Reclamation and Development Corporation was refunded only after the Financial Crimes Investigation Division of the Police (FCID) commenced investigations into alleged financial irregularities, reports claim.

Former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa on his arrival at the FCID on June 25 to give a statement on the alleged misuse of public funds for the construction of D.A. Rajapaksa Memorial Museum claimed that funds expended by the SLLRDC have been reimbursed. However, despite his claims, sources say although it was revealed that close to Rs. 90 million was spent on the museum, only Rs. 33 million had been paid back to the SLLRDC. Sources also say no official document had been signed attesting to this transaction.
