Suits ratings drop

26 August, 2018

It seems Prince Harry’s gain is Suits’ loss, as the show’s ratings are suffering since Meghan Markle’s departure.

Suits returned for its season 8 premiere in the US last month, marking the first episode to air since Meghan and co-star Patrick J Adams had been written out of the show in the season 7 finale.

In the absence of her character Rachel Zane and new on-screen husband Mike Ross, the return of season 8 has averaged with 1.2 million viewers.

Prior to Markle’s exit, Suits averaged 1.3 million in its seventh season.

Ratings have dipped each time the show has returned, even when The Duchess of Sussex was a part of it. Season 1 started with an impressive average of 4.6 million viewers when the show first began in 2011.

Meghan’s in-real-life wedding followed a month after her on-screen one, as she married Prince Harry at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle in May.

Following Meghan and Patrick’s departures from the series, Suits signed up Emmy-winning Grey’s Anatomy star Katherine Heigl for its eighth series as new character Samantha Wheeler.
