SLFP-led coalition has the required number of MPs

4 November, 2018

President Maithripala Sirisena has assured members of the Central Committee of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party that the SLFP-led coalition has the support of the required number of MPs to form a stable government, the Sunday Observer learns.

The President was speaking at the CC meeting at the official residence of the President last Friday.

At this meeting the President and the CC members had discussed the forming of the new government with the support of the Parliament majority.

The President had suggested to set up a Politburo consisting of senior members of the party to take a vital decision on behalf of the party. An SLFP minister told the Sunday Observer that this motion will be moved at the All Island Central Committee meeting on November 8.

However, the temporarily appointed General Secretary of the SLFP, Prof. Rohana Lakshman Piyadasa will resume duties, the SLFP spokesperson said.

This was the SLFC CC’s first gathering after the swearing-in of the new Cabinet.
