Eighty foreigners on show in Sri Lanka

25 November, 2018

As many as 80 foreign participants from nine countries have confirmed their participation at the Senior International Badminton Tournament that begins tomorrow (26) at the Sugathadasa Stadium.

The tournament organized by Ceylon Masters Badminton Association, is for men and women over 35 years of age and will be grouped into eight age categories.

The first day of the tournament will start off with six over-40 men’s doubles on six courts and will continue till 10.00 p.m.

These details were disclosed at the Ceylon Masters Badminton Secretariat at Vauxhall Street when the draw was held by the Tournament Director Ajith Wijayasinghe.

Adding further he said that as there are a large number of participants in this tournament each set will be decided on three sets giving the players time of 25 minutes for a game. The matches set to be played are singles and doubles for men and women and mixed doubles for all age categories.

After completing 194 matches on day one the winners will move to the second round the following day which will decide the finalists to play on day three. As there are only a limited number of entries in the over-70 age category this will be played on a round robin basis according to Wijayasinghe.

The tournament’s main sponsor is Mobil while the co-sponsors are 3M, Rovin Creative Services and Victor & Heladive.

Gems and Jewelry Corporation generously came forward to present a gem each for winners as mementos.

On the final day Minister of Sports Minister Faiszer Musthapha and Army Commander Lt. General Mahesh Senanayake will be in attendance as special guests and presents the awards.
